SECTION – A: Reading
1. Read the passage given below.
1. Have we ever thought consciously as to how much food we waste on daily basis? Have we ever started evaluating how much food our household, culture, nation and the environment are wasting?
2. It’s not something that scares individuals who have food readily accessible whenever they feel hungry. However, for those who are not even able to consume one square meal in a day, they always wonder if they should have filled their stomach with all the food that is wasted around them.
3. In medium and high-income countries, food fit for human consumption is discarded in vast amounts at the supermarket and market level. In particular, major food and waste losses exist in the food supply chain in low-income countries at the manufacturing and processing stages.
4. Data reveals that India wastes as much food as the whole United Kingdom eats, contrary to Indians’ perception that we don’t waste food. In fact, food waste in India is a troubling concern, and the streets of the country, especially garbage bins and landfills have ample evidence to prove this. Up to 40 per cent of the food produced in India is wasted, according to the United Nations Development Programme, and about 21 million tons of wheat is wasted annually.
5. Every year in India, about 67 million tonnes of food is wasted, which has been estimated to be around of Rs 92,000 crores. In other words, this amount is adequate to feed all of Bihar for a year. Nearly 21 million metric tons of wheat is found to rot in India per year. This number is equivalent to the gross annual production of Australia.
6. For global food security and the climate, food wastage is a topic of priority. Not only does food waste have a negative impact on the environment, but it also influences economy of a nation by creating economic losses. Approximately one-third of all food created for human consumption is lost or wasted, according to an FAO study. The economic effects of this food pollution are considerable, amounting to about $1 trillion per year.
On the basis of your understanding of the above passage, answer any ‘EIGHT ‘of the NINE questions given below:

2. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
The past two decades have seen a perpetual shift in the way we interact, engage, consume information or make a purchase decision, and the emergence of the ‘online’ culture has further played a key role in giving this trend a big push. Not just consumers, but even the retailers and traders have adapted the online culture in order to fulfil the gap created with the lack of physical movement during the pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated changes in consumer habits and has made digital shopping grow. Still, many of us miss the interaction and personalized attention that a physical purchase entails, and we don’t want to leave that behind. This duality has led to the birth of the concept of phygital experience that aims to take advantage of the best of e-commerce and point of sale.
How many times have we gone to an electronics store to see, touch and test a product only to leave empty-handed and buy it online? And how many times have we thoroughly combed the web – visited various brand websites, compared specifications, and read dozens of reviews – before making a purchase? Phygital connects two environments: online and offline. In other words, it tries to unite the best of the physical and digital worlds to create a much more complete and satisfying user experience.
Thinking about how often we have found ourselves in both situations can help us understand why the phygital phenomenon is becoming the new frontier of customer experience, even confirming itself as one of the main trends in digital strategies 2021.
